Expert Skin Cancer Services

At Sunraysia Skin Cancer Centre, we are dedicated to providing the highest standard of skin cancer care. Our team combines decades of experience with the latest technology, including digital dermoscopy and total body photography, to ensure a thorough and accurate assessment of your skin. We offer a comprehensive range of services, from full skin checks to procedures like excisions and cryotherapy. Our patient-centered approach and commitment to bulk billing for nearly all services ensure you receive expert, accessible, and compassionate care.

Full Skin Checks

We allow 20-25 minutes to perform a full skin check. This includes an examination of nails, palms, soles, scalp and the lining of the mouth. For this you will be asked to undress down to underwear.
A sheet or a gown are available. If you have any lesions beneath your underwear that concerns you, please point them out to the melanographer conducting your examination. The instrument used is the Canfield Visiomed D200 EVO digital dermoscope. This instrument can magnify skin lesions from 15X magnification up to 200X magnification. Digital images of skin lesions can easily be created, usually to create a baseline for later comparison to rule out subtle changes over the longer term.

Limited Skin Checks

If requested, the patient may point out a small number of skin lesions and request that they be examined. For this we use the Canfield Visiomed D200 EVO digital dermoscope, but can also use a handheld dermoscope or a loupe, depending on the situation.

Total Body Photography

For Total Body Photography we use the Canfield Intellistudio 2, which photographs all exposed skin using an automated system.
This is generally repeated every 12 months. It is of particular use for patients with a large number of nevi (moles) on their skin. In
this setting, the computerised system can identify and record all skin lesions and can point out new or changing lesions.

Excision of Skin Lesions

At Sunraysia Skin Cancer Centre, we can excise most lesions of concern under local anaesthetic. These procedures and associated pathology are bulk billed for all patients. We sterilise all instruments on site.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen spray to treat superficial skin lesions, mainly actinic keratosis, (solar keratosis) which are common pre-cancerous skin lesions on sun exposed skin. This is bulk billed for all patients.

Biopsy

Lesions may be partially biopsied using a punch biopsy which is round or by shave biopsy, which is shallower and a little wider.
This procedure and any associated pathology are bulk billed for all patients.
